Holding a handheld mirror, use the same imagery of the clock and face directly at 12. Keep your eyes looking forward; point your face between the hours until you see a favorable angle. Generally speaking, looking directly at the camera can be risky. Your face will take on more width than usual. However, every face is unique and an angle that works for one face may not work on another.

Take a few minutes to examine your images at different angles. Use the mirror as a lens and hold it above eye level, at eye level, and below eye level. Pause for a moment on angles you like and imagine that someone snapped a shot and now you are looking at the picture.

Use the distortions flat images cause to your advantage. Practice in front of a mirror; take a ton of pictures from different angles. Put aside the “good” pictures and look at them. Remember the “good side” during close-ups and it will eliminate time-wasting retakes when you are caught in an improvised photo moment.
